About Terence
Terence has a very personal attachment to the Flushing, because he has lived here for almost forty years, at first with his parents, and now with his own family of a wife and two children. His parents resembled the prototypical American: hard-working common people. They instilled in him the importance of such hard work and determination that he still holds dear in his heart. Observing and experiencing Flushing throughout his childhood, Terence immediately fell in love with it. From a young age he aspired to become a servant in his community, and this desire only grew when he graduated from Francis Lewis High School. Terence worked even harder, earning his B.A. from Nyack University and then his M.A. in Public Policy and Administration from SUNY Binghamton Graduate School. With the energy and fervor of a young dream about to be fulfilled, he went on to work under three New York City mayors: Koch, Dinkins, and Giuliani. Under Koch and Dinkins, he was instrumental in cleaning up the streets of Times Square. Under Giuliani, Terence worked at the New York City Housing Authority as a Community Administrator. There he helped tenants establish a not-for-profit organization to successfully fund their community initiatives, including senior and youth programs. Terence continues to be a strong advocate for affordable housing in our area.

Terence is currently a Community Advisory Council Member at the New York Hospital of Queens, Community Board #7 Member,  and a former Democratic District Leader. He works with our neighbors and local leaders to direct attention, energy, and funds to the places in our community where we most urgently need creative solutions. Among other things, he has led the campaign to remove junked cars from the Municipal Parking Lot downtown, helped establish a local hospital language bank, and provided strong leadership in the areas of neighborhood safety, contextual zoning, better hospital services for seniors, and education for our multicultural neighborhoods.

As part of the Community Board #7 since 1999, Terence has spent countless hours with fellow members analyzing and discussing hundreds of issues for the betterment of our community. He approved the Flushing Commons and the Macedonia Affordable Housing Projects so that our children and family could enjoy amenities that we don't have in downtown Flushing. He is the President of Our Flushing Political Coalition, and he is adept at bringing government and civic associations together to solve community problems creatively and to plan for our District’s future intelligently. Terence is determined and motivated to work harder than ever before to enhance his community. Flushing, you’ve got a friend in Terence Park.
